If you use 3D elevation data with OziExplorer and oziTarget, you may have noticed the elevation download feature in OziExplorer is broken. This is outside oziTarget's control — OziExplorer isn't our software — and the author hasn't fixed it despite several requests.
Failed downloads can also crash OziExplorer: the corrupted zip files
produce corrupted .hgt
files, which can cause crashes on shutdown and delays when opening maps.
Remove corrupted data
-
Navigate to the elevation data folder, e.g.
C:\OziExplorer\Elevation Data\Globe\… -
Delete any
.ZIPfiles, and any.HGTfiles under 200 KB (a healthy tile is around 2 MB).
Get new data
You can manually download 3-arc-second
.HGT
tiles (about 90 m resolution) from the
Viewfinder Panoramas interactive map. (Their
1-arc-second coverage is incomplete but may cover your area.) Find your rough location on the
world map, download the tiles, unzip, and copy them into
C:\OziExplorer\Elevation Data\Globe\.
You can dump them all together or organise into sub-folders. Finally,
set the path in OziExplorer under
3D/Elevation → Elevation configuration.
For complete 1-arc-second (30 m) coverage, sign up for NASA Earthdata and use the SRTM 30m tile downloader.
